This trip brings you back to brutal war time in Vietnam, the historic DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) in Quang Tri province once was the symbol of Vietnam’s brave struggling spirit. Ironically, it was Demilitarized Zone but it was the bloodiest fighting place in the world. It became well-known as the battleground in demarcation line separating North Vietnamese territory and South Vietnamese territory during the Vietnam War. You will have chance to learn much about our history as well as to understand more about one of the most expensive war of US at that time.
Leave your hotel in the morning; we head up to the Northern side of Hue city to the famous town of Dong Ha, Quang Tri province. On the way, our guide can show you so many historical relics. Arrive at Ben Hai River after 2 hours driving, we stop to walk on an old Hien Luong Bridge, this was only bridge to link between North and South of Vietnam, it was our desire to unify our country. 5 km wide on each side of Ben Hai River was DMZ; our guide will tell you a lot of interesting stories about this special place.
After learning a brief history of the region, we keep driving to Vinh Moc tunnels where local people lived and fought bravely during Vietnam War. Because Vinh Moc kept a key position in DMZ so that reason why both sides want to control this region. Every day American bombed on the ground that forced local people to go deeper and deeper underground to survive. That is an amazing land, the whole village moved to live there and 17 babies were born inside the tunnels.
We will stop at a local restaurant in Dong Ha town for lunch, then drive to western side along Historical National Highway No.9 to visit Khe Sanh combat base. You can see many historical sites along the way such as: Dakrong Bridge, Rock pile, Ho Chi Minh Trail and meet some Ethnic Minority Groups. Nowadays, Khe Sanh is a verdant valley, very quiet and peaceful; people visiting to this region could never imagine bloody fighting here before. There is also a small museum to show you about the base and the wreckages of US helicopters, tanks and bunkers may remind you of the horrible war.
Drive back Hue city and finish our Full day DMZ tour in the late afternoon.
